DOWNTOWN HISTORY MUSEUM

Much of Novato's pioneer history is preserved at the first post master's house on DeLong Avenue, across the street from City Hall. Novato was a dairy, orchard and farming community, charged with feeding the growing populous of Marin and San Francisco Counties. The City, to many people's surprise was not incorporated as a 'city' until 1960.

HAMILTON AIR FORCE BASE

Located in southeast Novato is Hamilton. Commissioned in the early part of the 20th century, the air force base rose during the Pacific Theater of World War Two. Preserved structures in Hamilton have been repurposed into museums, restaurants, businesses, artist studios and more. There is still a museum at Hamilton and the gates still welcome visitors into the community.
